EASOM, Joy W. - On the morning of July 30, 2002 Joy W. Easom passed away at her home in Tiburon after an extended illness. A native Californian, born in Alturas on February 6, 1930, Joy lived most of her life in Marin County. She was the life partner and wife of Hank Easom. Together they built a successful boat business in Sausalito that became a landmark. Easom Boat Works was started at the inception of their marriage and ran until Joy & Hank "retired" in 1990. Joy was the loving mother of Jan Easom Kneib of Olathe, Kansas and Kent Easom of Astoria, Oregon. She often could be found driving the two of them to and from sailing, tennis and school, as well as making sure they were safe and sound. Showing nary any mercy to any would-be competitor at the ping pong table, tennis court or domino game, her desire to win was infamous. She could be heard telling her husband, Hank, as he headed out to a sailing race on Yucca, "if you don't come in 3rd or better don't bother coming home." Most often he heeded her words. Joy was known and loved for her kindness and graciousness to family, friends, acquaintances and strangers. She expressed herself in beautifully crafted notes, a gentle smile or a warm thank you. Some of her happiest times were lived at the cabin she and Hank shared in Pinecrest, CA. Her days were spent taking on challengers to her favorite sports, sitting on the beach with friends and enjoying her evenings under the honky-tonk lights on the patio. Besides her husband and children, Joy is survived by her brother Bart Williams, his wife, Bea of Melbourne Beach, FL, son-in-law Joseph Kneib, his daughter, Kelley, as well as many nieces and nephews. Eternally private, there will be no memorial service for Joy. Donations may be made in her name to Hospice of Marin.
