FRANK C. CAMENISCH
Frank C. Camenisch, a Marin resident for more than 70 years, died Saturday at age 77 in a local hospital after a long illness.
A native of San Francisco, Camenisch moved to San Rafael in the early 1900s and to 209 San Francisco Boulevard, San Anselmo, in 1919.
He was a radio operator at sea from 1914 to 1923. During peacetime, he worked on boats plying West Coast waters and on schooners which sailed to Russia, Turkey and other places. During World War I, he served in the Navy in the Atlantic.
He was a member of the Society of Wireless Pioneers and a charter member of the Marin Amateur Radio Club, founded in the 1930s.
From 1923 to 1942, Camenisch worked as a delivery an for Marin County Milk Co., and Borden’s Milk Co. He worked as a civilian electrician at Mare Island during World War II, was a deliveryman for the Coca Cola Bottling Company after the war, and worked as a custodian at College of Marin for 13 years until his retirement in 1963.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Esther Camenisch; a son, Frank C. Camenisch Jr. of San Anselmo; a daughter, June Dougan of San Rafael; a brother, Florentine Camenisch of Colfax, two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Private services were planned today. Memorial gifts to a favorite charity are preferred by the family.
