Joseph F. Azevedo Jr., of Novato, a retired gardener, died yesterday in a Santa Rosa hospital after a short illness. He was 77.
He was born in St. George Island in the Azores Islands and came to this country as a young man. Azevedo worked for Rudolph Cheese factory for many years and later for the Hess Lumber Co. He retired 20 years ago and did gardening for neighbors.
He was a member of the IDESI, UPEC and the Druids Grove 113.
Azevedo is survived by his wife, Isabel, of the home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Loretto Church, Novato. Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. tomorrow at Keaton’s Chapel of Marin. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, San Rafael.
Contributions to the Hanna Boys Center or a favorite charity would be preferred by the family.

A Death Notice in the same paper mentions that he was survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
