Passing of Mother Raymond Ends Notable Career As An Educator
Great spiritual leader and scholar who spent 30 of her 40 years in the congregation of Dominican Sisters of San Rafael as mother general and president of Dominican College, Reverend Mother Mary Raymond O'Connor, O.P., who died here yesterday afternoon, will be mourned by the host of students and associates with whom she had worked for so many years.
Notes particularly for her knowledge of Greek and Thomistic studies, the reverend mother was a former prioress general of the Sisters of St. Dominic's Congregation of Most Holy Name of Jesus. She was a native of San Francisco, born there in 1882, the daughter of the late Thomas and Elizabeth L. O'Connor, sister of Isabelle and George R. O'Connor.
Solemn requiem mass will be celebrated Monday morning at 10 o'clock in the Chapel of Dominican College, San Rafael, with Monsignor Patrick Ryan, vicar general of the archdiocese, presiding. Interment will be in St. Dominic's Cemetery, Benicia.
