Mary Jane Rector Sellers, Oct. 12, 1915 - Dec. 26, 2001

Mary Jane R. Sellers, age 86, passed away peacefully at the Laurel Creek Health Center, Paradise Valley Estates, Fairfield, California. She is survived by her husband, Col. Coleman Sellers, USAF(R), their two daughters: Letitia Jane Little, two loving grandchildren: Mason S. Little and Lindsay J. Little of Minneapolis, Minnesota; and daughter, Joanna A. Shaw of Santa Fe, New Mexico; and a sister, Barbara Rector Seaver of Pebble Beach, California. Mary Jane was born to H.B. and Gladys Rector of Piedmont, California. After graduating from Piedmont High School (Highlanders), she attended the University of California and became a member of the Alphi Phi Sorority, Berkeley Chapter. She was an active member of the Alphi Phi Alumni of Marin County. During WWII, she became a licensed pilot and qualified herself for entry in the Woman's Airforce Service Pilot (WASP) Program and graduated in class 44-10 in December 1944. General "Hap" Arnold, commander of the Army Air Forces, USA, presented her wings to her. Coleman and Mary Jane were longtime residents of San Rafael, Marin County, California. Mary Jane was a member of the Northgate Group and the Moya del Pena Library Group at the Marin Art and Garden Center at Ross, California. In 1998, they moved to Paradise Valley Estates, retirement community in Fairfield, California. Memorial Service will be held on January 5, 2002 at 1:30 p.m. at the St. Luke Presbyterian Church, 10 Bayview Drive, San Rafael, California. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Hospice or to your favorite charity. After the Service, the family invites you for refreshments, to be served in the recreational facility on the grounds at St. Luke Presbyterian Church.
