Jake Hamburg’s Rites Set

Funeral for Jake (Jay) Hamburg, a retired Army master sergeant and long-time Mill Valley resident, will be held at 3:30 p.m. tomorrow at the post chapel at the Presidio of San Francisco. Burial will be at the Presidio.

Hamburg, who had lived in Mill Valley with his wife, Mildred, since 1955, died Tuesday in Letterman General Hospital after a short illness. He was 66.

Born in Germany, Hamburg came to the Unites States in 1912. He served 30 years in the U.S. Army and went through 10 major campaigns in World War II. He retired in 1946 but was recalled for two years during the Korean Conflict. Eighteen years of his Army career were spent at the Presidio.

Hamburg also worked as a civilian for 15 years at Fort Mason where he was in charge of ground maintenance when he retired in 1963.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a brother, William Hamburg of Vancouver, Wash., and a sister, Mollie Jastroszewski of Milwaukee.

Friends may call from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Ca lifornia Funeral Service, 766 Valencia, San Francisco.
