August Hirth, aged 36, a native of Germany, was drowned on Monday April the 1st at Escalle station. The deceased was subject to fainting spells and probably fell into the Sleugh during an attack of unconsciousness. He left the saloon of Andrew Deringer for whom he worked, at 10:30 o’clock to go to an ark to get some empty bottles, and a half hour later was found dead in the sleugh by Mr. Deringer. The remains were taken by his brother Joseph Hirth to San Francisco for burial.
