Richmond Coleman
The funeral for Richmond Coleman of Richmond, an accomplished gospel singer and former longtime resident of Marin City, will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Marin City Church of God.
Mr. Coleman died Wednesday, April 6, 1988, at a San Francisco hospital after a long illness. He was 75.
Mr. Coleman was a native of Lake Charles, La. He lived in Marin City from 1944 to 1962, when he moved to Richmond.
He sang with numerous gospel groups during his musical career, including the Soul Stirrers, the Houston Famous Four and the Marin City Gospel Quartet.
For about 25 years, Mr. Coleman was employed by Southern Pacific Railroad. He retired in 1971.
Mr. Coleman is survived by his wife, Velma Coleman of Richmond; two sons, Richmond Coleman Jr. of Novato and Morris Everett Coleman of Seattle; a sister, Martha LaPointe, and a brother, Milton Coleman, both of Houston; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
A quiet hour will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Marin City Church of God.
Friends may call for visitation at the Baker Mortuary, 980 Eighth St., Oakland, until Monday evening.
