Loses Life In Burning Stable
Robert Bowman Burned to Death In Incendiary Fire

Robert W. Bowman, a 7-year-old boy, was burned to death in a fire which destroyed a livery stable kept by Charles Jones at Ross Station on Sunday morning. Six horses perished in the flames and the residence of H. B. Fields, adjoining the stable, was also burned. Mr. and Mrs. Jones and their little son saved their lives by jumping from an upper story window to the ground, a distance of about twenty feet. Bowman, the burned boy, was their nephew. He was aroused from sleep by Mr. Jones, but before he could escape from his room the flames had burst upon him.

The fire is thought to be due to incendiarism. Several people were suspected but in each case Sheriff Taylor made an investigation and found that there were no reasons for the suspicion. The fire started in the hay in the rear of the stable and gained great headway before it was discovered.

The boy who was burned was a son of Benjamin Bowman, a rancher living at San Antone. He had been visiting his uncle for the holidays and was to have returned home today. The loss on the stable will amount to about $5000 and Mr. Field’s loss is estimated at about $1500.
