Death of Mrs. Hattie E. Neale

Seldom has it been our duty to record the death of one whose joining the silent majority has cast a heavier gloom over many friends. Monday, Hattie E.,„ the wife of Samuel E. Neale of the shop department of the shore division of the Northwestern Pacific, passed away after great suffering. Two weeks ago she fell on the stairs, causing internal injuries which developed later into blood poisoning. All that medical science could do was summoned. Last week she was calling for her sister, Mrs. Alfred U. Field in Stockton, and when Mr. Neale reached the telephone office he learned that Mrs. Field was very low and was calling for Mrs. Neale.

Rev. C. G. Paterson held services in the house where many friends had assembled to pay their last respects. All that was mortal was carried to their last resting place in Fernwood cemetery by R. R. Farrell, Dudley Lyons, J. Wright, P. Higgins, P. M. Watson, P. J. Elliott. The grave was covered with beautiful floral pieces. Among them were: Broken crescent, by Railroad boys; pillow, Mr. Neale; wreath, Mr. Fields; large floral piece, Thomas Frost; wreaths from Mr. and Mrs. Warwick and the Misses Kelly. A very pathetic scene was the placing of a few flowers in her mother's hand by the nineteen month old daughter saying "Ta Ta."

During her residence here, by her charming manner and personality, she made many warm and lasting friends, who extend their sympathy to the bereaved husband and motherless infant daughter.
