Tomales Stricken
The little town of Tomales has suffered more by this terrible calamity than any place in Marin. Death there in horrible form, overtook two of the children, aged 18 and 12, of Mrs. Cauzza, and another little child of the same mother lies suffering with a broken back and cannot live.
The old Marshall mansion, built of stone, in which they lived, collapsed like a house of cards, burying the family in its ruins. Help soon came and the rescuers lifted from the ruins the bruised bodies of the unfortunate three. The little girl aged 7 was alive and conscious but suffering dreadfully when she was taken from the ruins. There was a scene that made strong men weep. The little child, wounded unto death, melted men’s hearts by prayers she learned at her mother’s knee.
