LARRY CAHN

Larry Cahn of Lucas Valley, a 15-year resident of Marin and a director of the San Francisco Wine Institute, died Tuesday at a Palo Alto hospital following a month-long illness. He was 48.

Cahn was a San Francisco native and attended school there. He received a degree in journalism from Stanford University where he was sports editor for the Stanford Daily. He served in the Army for two years and worked at the San Francisco Examiner as a sports writer before going to work 18 years ago for the Wine Institute.

Cahn was director in charge of special events for the institute and traveled throughout the country to arrange tastings for California wines. He also arranged wine tastings in San Francisco for visitors and worked as a publicist for most of the California wineries.

Cahn also wrote a column on wine and food for the Terra Linda News and wrote articles for other newspapers.

He is survived by his wife, Suzanne, and three daughters, Cindy, Wendy and Shelly, all of Lucas Valley.

No funeral service will be held. The family prefers memorial donations to Stanford Medical Center for heart research.
