William McCurdy
Track coach
For over 30 years, William Wilkins McCurdy was a track and field coach at Harvard University.
He was awarded an honorary degree in psychology and the Harvard Medal.
Mr. McCurdy, 82, a native of Bolinas, died March 11.
During World War II he served in the Army, and he retired from the Reserves in 1976 as a lieutenant colonel.
He graduated from Stanford University and began his coaching career in 1947.
He then went on to Harvard in 1950 and retired in 1982.
In 1985 the school dedicated an outdoor track facility in his honor.
Mr. McCurdy is survived by his wife, Virginia; children, William N. McCurdy, James K. McCurdy, Alexander S. McCurdy, Allyson M. Cruikshank, and Darcy K. McCurdy; and grandchildren, Wendy, Jay, Steele, Beth, Susan, Jair, and Shea.
A private service is planned for April.
