HENRY L. DODGE

Henry L. Dodge, the senior member of the firm of Dodge, Sweeney & Co., died at his residence in San Francisco last week from a complication of diseases, from which he has suffered for over a year, but was able to be about until a week before his death, when his fatal illness confined him to his bed. He was a native of Vermont, crossed the plains and came to California in 1849, and since than has occupied many positions of trust and honor, including those of assemblyman, supervisors, state senator and director of the United States branch mint.

The commission house of Dodge, Sweeney & Co. was formed in 1854 by Mr. Dodge and a brother, C.L. Dodge. During the 48 years of its existence it has grown to vast proportions, and is now one of the largest dairy produce and provision houses on the coast. Mr. Dodge leaves a widow and an estate worth over $1,000,000. He was 78 years of age.
