A Stranger Drowned

The storm in San Rafael Tuesday night is charged with causing the death of one man. A stranger about 40 years of age, whose name is supposed to be Black, and who is supposed to have hailed from Santa Rosa has been camping near the small creek - Irwin Street - near Second and Irwin Street below the broad gauge depot. He traveled in a one-horse covered wagon and is supposed to have gone to sleep in his wagon Tuesday night. The rains descended and the wind blew - the wagon was turned over, throwing its occupant in the creek where the body was found by Coroner Eden Wednesday morning, in water about a foot deep. It is supposed the body was stunned by the fall and was drowned before the man recovered .

There were no bruises on the body, nothing to indicate the cause of death other than drowning. The only thing found to identify the body was a cashbook upon which the name and address was almost obliterated. The name upon the cover was apparently Black, the given name could not be deciphered.

Coroner Eden telephoned to Sheriff Grace at Santa Rosa for information.
