LEONARD O’BRIEN

Requiem Mass for retired Army Lt. Col. Leonard C. O’Brien of Strawberry will be offered at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Hilary’s Church, Tiburon. Burial will be in Golden Gate National Cemetery, San Bruno. The Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. tomorrow at Godeau Mortuary, San Francisco.

O’Brien, 52, collapsed and died early Saturday in his home at 208 East Strawberry Drive. The county coroner’s office said he apparently died of natural causes.

A native of Wisconsin, he had lived in Marin for the past 14 years.

He retired eight years ago after a 20-year Army career that included World War II service in Iran. He was in the adjutant general’s office.

O’Brien was a real estate appraiser for the state, and had his office in San Francisco.

He was a member of the Redmen Improved Order, Tamal Chapter, the Society of Real Estate Appraisers and the Marin County Retired Officers Association.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret; seven children, Terrance, Peter, Stephen, Geneen and Madeleen, all at home, Mrs. Christine Henderson of Redding, Shasta County, and Mrs. Kathleen Hughes of Ft. Rucker, Ala., and three grandchildren.

His family asked that memorial contributions go to St. Peter’s Chanel Seminary, San Rafael.
