IVAN R. COUSINS Jr.

Ivan Roper Cousins Jr., a retired antiques dealer, died Monday, Jan. 2, 1989, at his home in Sausalito after a long illness. He was 70.

Mr. Cousins was born in Massachusetts and had lived in Sausalito for 35 years.

He was an antiques dealer for many years, owning Ivan Cousins Antiques in San Anselmo, Sausalito and San Francisco. He specialized in early American furniture and art pieces.

After retirement, Mr. Cousins took up acting and was in various television commercials, sometimes portraying a distinguished banker or a grandfather.

For eight years, he also was in charge of exhibitors for the Culinary Carnival held in San Francisco to benefit the Children's Garden, a non-profit Marin agency for emotionally disturbed youngsters.

Drawn to the carnival were well known chefs such as James Beard, Narsai David, Barbara Tropp, Judith Ets-Hokin and Julia Child, Mr. Cousin's sister-in-law.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Cousins of Sausalito; a daughter, Phila Cousins of Denver; and a son, Samuel Cousins of Sherman, Conn.

Arrangements are being handled by the Neptune Society.

The family prefers that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Marin, 150 Nellen Drive, Corte Madera.
