Death of H.D. POLHEMUS
Another Old-Time Marin Railroad Man Gone to His Reward

H.D. Polhemus, at one time line agent for the North Pacific Coast Railroad at San Rafael and Tomales, died May 21, 1900, at his home in Miraflores, Orange County. Deceased was in the employ of the county for 7 or 8 years, and was universally esteemed by all who knew him. The following is copied from the Anaheim Gazette:

“Henry D. Polhemus died at his home at Miraflores, on Monday morning, at 6 o’clock, after a brief illness, pneumonia, superintended by an attack of la grippe sustained some three weeks previously.

He had been in bed only a week, but sank rapidly until recovery was despaired of. He was a native of Chile, and was aged at the time of his death, 56 years.

Mr. Polhemus had been a resident of this vicinity for upward of 30 years. He was engaged in the hardware and real estate business here in the early 70’s, and was quite successful in his business enterprises. He was the founder of Miraflores, where he had resided with his family for a number of years past. He was known to many of the people of Orange County, where he had spent so many years of his life, for his kind-hearted and generous disposition, and he numbered his friends by scores on all sides.

The deceased was a son-in-law of John Hanna, Esq., of Miraflores. He leaves a wife, two daughters, Mrs. Ralph Hunter of this city, and Mrs. Cayce of Santa Barbara, and a young son, to mourn his loss.

The interment took place yesterday afternoon, the burial being private. His death will be regretted, and his cheery laugh and genial presence will be missed.”
