Harry Bolton, Aged Keeper at Yacht Harbor Dies Sunday

Henry Bolton, who has had charge of boats at the San Rafael Yacht Harbor for the past six years, passed away at the Cottage Hospital Sunday. He was 73 years of age. The funeral service was held from the Keaton and Dusel mortuary.

Bolton was taken to the hospital about a week ago from the Sloss Memorial Home with a fractured pelvis, which he sustained in a fall and the shock was too much for the aged man.

Every one knew Bolton as “Harry.” He has resided in this vicinity for the past ten years. For a time, he maintained a fishing boat on the bay. Tiring of this, he took up the work of looking after Yacht Harbor facilities for the city.

Bolton was a native of Germany. He was born October 8, 1862 near Hamburg. When a mere boy of 14 he left his native land and shipped before the mast for many years. He often told his friends that he had encircled the globe 13 times, and related many experiences at sea.

During the time that he remained in the hospital, he retold these tales of the high seas under sail, and when the last hours approached he still dreamed and talked of the sea and his imagination took his listeners back many years when the dying man had charge of some early windjammers.

Mr. Bolton was a member and resident of the Sloss Memorial Home where he was well liked and respected.
