CLIFFORD ALAN TAWNEY (S.F.P.D. Ret) of Novato, passed away peacefully at home on May 6, 2001 after a courageous battle with cancer. His loving family was at his side.
Cliff was born October 31, 1940 in Portland, OR. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps at the age of 17 and served in Okinawa, Vietnam, Laos and stateside at 29 Palms. Upon his discharge he came to San Francisco and joined the S.F.P.D. He retired a decorated Robbery Inspector in 1992 after 31 years of service to the City. Cliff retired to enjoy life. He was a 49er fan since the Kezar days. An avid golfer he enjoyed traveling, fishing, boating and cooking. Member of the Elk's Lodge of Petaluma. Most fulfilling was the time spent with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Judi, his children Jacqueline-Marie Moore and husband Sam of Sonoma; son Robert Browne and wife Beke of Novato; son Kevin Tawney of Rohnert Park, son Christian Tawney and wife Erin of Paradise Valley, AZ. His grandchildren, Ryan and Kelsey Browne and Collin, Blake and Emma Grace Tawney His sister Barbara Kilmeyer, WV and his brother's children Brenda Manes, Heather Tawney and Joy Bullman of OR; Jeff Tawney of WA; Heidi Howser of CA and many wonderful and supportive friends. He was preceded in death by his father Eugene A. Tawney and brother Gene Tawney both of Portland, OR.
A celebration of his life will be held at the Novato Presbyterian Church, 701 Wilson, Novato, Friday, May 11th at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Hospice of Marin or a favorite charity. Internment private.
