NANCY LURMANN
San Anselmo resident
Services are today for Bergman Lurmann of San Anselmo, who died Jan. 7 of cancer in San Francisco. She was 44.
Mrs. Lurmann earned a master’s degree in counseling from Antioch College in Santa Barbara, but spent most of her professional life in the book publishing industry. “She loved books and she loved people,” her husband, Frederick W. Lurmann said.
She was born and raised in Rockville Center, N. Y.
She worked in marketing and promotion for several publishing houses in New York City, including a stint as director of marketing for several divisions of Random House Books. She also served as publisher of Freebies, a magazine with a circulation of 500,000.
She moved to California in 1981, where she became involved in counseling and psychology. “She gravitated more toward helping people and guiding them to help themselves,” her husband said.
The Lurmanns moved to Marin four years ago.
In Marin, she was involved with Brandeis Hillel Day School, which her 7-year-old daughter, Kaitlin Ann Lurmann, attends.
In addition to her husband and daughter, Mrs. Lurmann is survived by her parents, Edgar and Beatrice Bergman of Roslyn, N.Y., and her brother, Mark Bergman of Novato.
Services are at 1:30 p.m. today at Sinai Memorial Chapel, 1501 Divisadero St., San Francisco.
Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
