MARIA L. PACHECO Dies At 81
Maria Loreta Pacheco, 81, a retired San Rafael school teacher and a descendant of a pioneer Marin County family that came to California from Mexico in 1776, died today at a local hospital after a short illness.
Miss Pacheco was the niece of the late Ygnacio Pacheco, for whom the present community of Ignacio was named.
Ygnacio Pacheco was the owner of a Spanish land grant, one of the largest ranches in Marin, in what is now the Ignacio Hamilton Air Force base area.
Miss Pacheco was born in San Rafael, her father having owned a ranch in what is now West End.
She was a teacher all her life, having taught first in high school, then in primary school. She was principal of West End and Sun Valley schools in San Rafael upon retirement about 16 years ago.
She last lived with her sister, Irene Pacheco, also a retired school teacher, at 161 Bayview Drive.
Miss Pacheco was a member of the Retired Teachers Association of Marin County and of the Marin Audubon Society.
Requiem High Mass will be celebrated for Miss Pacheco at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Sylvester, San Rafael. A Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. tomorrow at the Keaton Mortuary, San Rafael. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, San Rafael.
