Respected Citizen Called By Death
John F. Boyd, one of San Rafael’s best known and wealthiest citizens, passed away last Monday after a brief illness at Adler’s Sanitorium in San Francisco, where he had been taken for treatment a week before following an accident at his Pacific avenue residence when he sustained, through a fall, a broken hip.
Mr. Boyd was highly respected in San Rafael and in his large circle of acquaintances, both business and social. For the past dozen years he had passed his summers with his family in his home here, which site near the gate of Boyd Memorial Park, his gift to the City of San Rafael to commemorate his dead sons, both of whom died in early youth. Some years ago he retired from business, in which he had amassed a fortune estimated at about $3,000,000. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Louise Arner Boyd, just a few months ago, and is survived by but one child, a daughter, Miss Louise Boyd.
The funeral was held yesterday, with interment in the family plot in Mt. Tamalpais cemetery. Mr. Boyd was 77 years of age.
