Mary Eden, Member Of Pioneer Family, Crosses Great Divide
A kindly smile and a friendly and gentle spirit will be missed from San Rafael.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday morning at 9 o’clock in St. Raphael’s Catholic Church for Mary E. Eden, member of a pioneer San Rafael family, who had been found dead Saturday in her apartment, victim of a heart attack. Last seen alive on Thursday, her absence was soon noticed by friends. Upon investigation, according to Deputy Coroner Harry Williams, Miss Eden’s lifeless body was found in her bed.
Good hearted and amiable, a friend indeed, was this beloved matron’s reputation who in her former capacity as undertaker of the parlors bearing her name, showed these characteristics most.
Miss Eden had been attending the Mission last week in Saint Raphael’s Church of which she was a devout member and was last seen by many of her friends in the church.
The late matron was the daughter of Edward Eden, a native of Holland, and former coroner and public administrator of this county. The late Mr. Eden came to California in 1853, and entered the undertaking business in 1874.
She leaves a brother, Stephen Eden.
