Mercedes Donnelly Sweeney
Our dear mom, grandma, mother-in-law, aunt, and friend was born in Pennsylvania November 28, 1916. After moving to Detroit and marrying her beloved John C. Sweeney, she raised five wonderful yet outrageous children whom she loved beyond measure. "God is Love; His plan for creation can be rooted only in love….Every saint who has penetrated to the core of Reality has testified that a divine universal plan exists and that it is beautiful and full of joy." --Paramahansa Yoganada. On Christmas, at 12:01 a.m., with her children Jack, Janey, Judith, Mary Kay, and Mark (her son Jerry awaited her in the next life) and her niece Peggy surrounding and tending her, with her grandchildren John and Lynn nearby, she passed in angelic, radiant joy after a short illness and a long, loving life. Mercedes was a California resident for the past 30 years where the moderate weather and expansive ocean gave her comfort and pleasure. She now makes her home solely in our hearts where her love resides forever. As someone who loved home, the Sweeney family recommends any commemorative gifts be made to Homeward Bound of Marin, an organization helping individuals and families move home for good.
