Rosemarie Jurs
Long time Mill Valley resident, Rosemarie Jurs, 64, passed away at home January 6, 2002, after a courageous battle with brain cancer. She was well known locally as co-owner, with her husband, Michael, of Capricorn Cookware in Mill Valley. A self-taught creative artist, she produced exquisite ethnic figures that are now heirloom collectibles. For years, they have graced Capricorn's display windows. In addition, she created surrealistic art works in a variety of media.
She was a gifted pianist, an opera buff, a doll maker and a seamstress. She shared her husband's love of sailing and water skiing and also hiked, biked, gardened, explored the out-of-doors and traveled the world.
As a TWA flight attendant for 27 years, she flew international routes to Asia and Europe, retiring in 1988. In 1970, one of her flights was hijacked and forced to land with two other jetliners on the desert of Amman. They were held captive on the plane for seven days. Finally, after all passengers were evacuated, the planes were blown up.
She is survived by her husband of 31 years, Michael Jurs of Mill Valley, her sisters, Sigrid Metzner and Charlotta Gnaedig, and a nephew, Andre Metzner, all of Berlin, Germany.
A private service will be held. Donations in her memory may be made to Hospice of Marin in Corte Madera or Guide Dogs for the Blind of San Rafael.
