Walter Smith

Walter Frances Smith, 54, of 408 Fourth Street, San Rafael, died yesterday, apparently of a heart attack while being driven to the hospital by his daughter.

Madolyn Frances Solar told police she was enroute to Hamilton Air Force Base Hospital with her father when he suffered an attack. She drove immediately to the nearby San Rafael Fire Department where firemen attempted unsuccessfully to revive Smith with artificial respiration.

Smith was pronounced dead by Dr. Rafael C. Dufficy, county medical director.

Funeral arrangements are pending at Keaton's Mortuary in San Rafael.
