He was a member of the American Association of Retired Persons, California Chapter No. 1 of the National Association of Power Engineers and National Geographic Society. He was a past member of the Olympic Club of San Francisco.
He is survived by his wife, Pauline Carroll Boyd; three adopted children, Joseph Carroll Boyd of San Francisco, Patricia Carroll Fulmer of Phoenix and Donna Carroll Boyd of Novato; six grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
At his request, no services were held. His ashes were scattered at sea.
